Styles
of Fishing in Mediteranean Sea
Various techniques of fishing are used on the French Riviera
according to
the sought-after fishes, the state of the sea, the weather and
the season.... |
|
TROLLING
FISHING
- Deep-Sea Trolling Fishing
Sporting fishing which is practised far away from the coasts (at
least 35 nautical miles away). 6 rods are necessary to maintain
fishes around the boat. The speed of drag varies from 8 to 18
knots and the sought species are the tuna, the barracuda, the
white marlin of the Mediterranean or the sea-bream coryphene You
can use flexible lures (trailed on surface without ballasting),
swimming fishes, octopus or combine flexible spoon-lure.
- Coastal Trolling Fishing
These is a fishing practised during winter times, close to the
coast, preferably with slow drag (the speed of the boat will have
to be approximately around 1 to 3 knots). The sea perch (bass)
will be the primarily sought fish.
The difficulty is to be able to circumvent the hunting if there
is one, and to make the lines pass on this one without frightening
the fish which can plunge at any moment.

FISHING
WITH BROUME
To practise this fishing, the boat must be anchored.
It is an interesting fishing because it makes possible
to capture specimens of big size. It is especially used
during tuna
fishing contest
. It is not necessarily practised far from the coasts.
The rods are fixed at various depths. The "Broumé"
is made using sardines thrown to the sea with regular
spaces to attract fish. You will need approximately
80 kg of sardines to be effective and attract the large
specimens. This fishing requires the use of a robust
and adapted material
as the start of a blue fin tuna is extraordinary
powerful and the fight with the fish can last more than
3 hours. The largest tuna specimens stay in the great
depths.
The boat drops anchor on the place of fishing (generally
between 60 and 200 m deep).
Then you have to set up anchoring (a rope is drawn from
the boat to the anchoring
buoy). This rope will be releasable very
quickly in the event of bite. At this stage you must
hoist the black ball on the masts to announce the action
of fishing.
One then launches the most rods possible, at various
depths (the more you put
rods in water, the more
you'll have a chance to take fish). The rods are secured.
The baits used are sardines, mackerels…
COASTAL BROUMÉ
This fishing is practised using jute bags filled with
crushed sardines hung at the edge of the boat to attract
fish.
To increase the chances of catches, the rods will be
placed at various depths

DEEP
SEA FISHING
It is a very interesting fishing as it allows you to capture
many species living in deep seas like congers, the groupers,
the dentis, the sérioles, sea-breams... It can be practised
only with electric reels and winches. Indeed, the line being
equipped with very heavy leads, it would be difficult to bring
it back manually regarding the length of the wire, the undercurrents
and the pressure of water.

DANDLING
FISHING
The dandling fishing consists in letting a lure into
the water, then animating it, by a succession of drawn
and slackened. It is a fact that many lures only work
at the descent and they mustn't be lashed by the tension
of the wire. This technique is very useful when the
activity of hunting on surface stops because the bonitos
have plunged and it is necessary to go to seek them
a little deeper (between 10 and 30 m in general).
